This is the third installment in my ongoing series titled Stunning Homes. The last home one I wrote about, located at 3318 Hermosa Avenue, recently sold with multiple offers (“3318 Hermosa Avenue Raises the Bar“). It was the most expensive sale on Hermosa Avenue to date and, with 4,800 sq. ft., had a reduced list price of just under $5 M. A few short blocks south of this home is the Lazar Design/Build home at 3002 Hermosa Avenue. It has a list price of $4.999 M, but with only 3,600 sq. ft. I went to the open house held here last Sunday and confess that I wasn’t sure what to make of it. It is so unique by beach standards, that I was hesitant to categorize it as stunning.
I imagine that many long time residents of the beach will have a hard time getting used to its bold profile and design. My companion on the visit to the home commented on the floor plan. It is certainly not conventional and would not be described as having an open plan, at least not when thinking of the house in its entirety.
The views are stunning on two of the levels. The living area on the middle level opens up so much as to feel like you are outdoors with little shelter. The top level was designed to completely integrate the indoor and outdoor space to capitalize on the great location of the home.
Every level and every feature challenge conventional thinking about beach living and yet, the home manages to connect very well with the atmosphere of the beach somehow. It is definitely worth a look.
However, this home may be priced at a premium even for Hermosa Avenue. We will see how the market takes to this bold “California Lifestyle” design.
